Personality
-Dutiful-Respectful-Polite-Bright-Empathetic-
Sanosuke is a deferential, young Samurai. Holding true to both his own personal morals, and the particular beliefs of his family and clan. You won't catch this swordsman speaking ill of anyone, even those that speak ill towards or of him. Both courteous and thoughtful, some would consider him overly nice, to the point of a fault. They mistake his personality as a weakness, when in fact it is an external coping mechanism. Although a facade, it is an unconscious one; he reveals this to others to prevent intrusion upon his inner self. In that way, he does not like to get personal, and would much rather talk about the simple trivialities a particular day has or will offer. That said, he bears a deep love for his home, and would in turn protect those within it to his dying breath.
Despite his young age, Sano, is mature several years beyond his own; though this is not of his own volition. His natural talent in Kenjutsu, allowed him to rise through the ranks of the Samurai quicker than most, and in order to cope with this cultural shock, he was forced to confront both themes of death and life, earlier than most children his age. This has made him both modest, and self-sacrificing. He understands the difference between a kind act, and one for the greater good. Among the former and the latter, he realizes that certain aspects of his being must be compromised to ensure the survival of both his clan and of course his family, while others still must be given up for the benefit of many.
To protect, to serve and to preserve, a mantra of the Samurai code and one that he follows religiously. As a watchman, he must both see a visitor as a threat, and a potential ally. He must both be wary, and friendly; and more often than naught, consider several possible outcomes to events and conversations. This has formed into something beyond a mere rational comprehension or precept, and into a nimble analytic mind. Trained from childhood, into early teen-hood, he is both disciplined and instructive. Finding joy among the company of others, both younger and older and among those that can learn from what he already knows.

Weapon Of Choice: A pair Katanas, otherwise commonly known as the sword of a Samurai. It is characterized by its distinctive appearance. Curved and slender, with a single edged blade averaging about two to three feet in length. It has a long grip, meant for two-hands and a typically circular or sometimes square guard. Renowned for its sharpness and cutting ability, a Katana is a weapon meant to maim and kill.
Battle Style:
The Art of Kenjutsu
The ability to fight with a sword is one of many sub-divergent and separate, sacred arts passed down from one generation of Samurai to the next. There are many different styles, or schools; however the simplest form is simply known as Kenjutsu. Although rooted in fairly simple logic, its techniques are by no means simple or easy to use. In fact many are some of the most deadly attacks in the world.
Simplified into two core arts Kenjutsu can be broken down into: Battojutsu (the art of drawing blade, killing in one strike and sheathing) and Iaijutsu (the art of mental presence and countering). The former is a style that focuses almost completely on offensive tactics while sacrificing many defensive qualities for the ability to rapidly cut, slash and kill an opponent. While Iaijutsu, focuses primarily on defensive maneuvers such as evasion, parry, and riposte (lunge).
Sanosuke and Battojutsu
Sanosuke is a Samurai that relies heavily on his ability to read his opponent and, well, “out-draw” him or her. He uses this foresight to strike fast, first and defeat an adversary before having to defend himself. That said, as a offensive style swordsman, he is lacking severely in endurance and his overall ability to defend himself. However, whereas he lacks in endurance, he makes up for in speed, and fortitude in the face of danger.
Kendo The Way of the Sword (Techniques)
- Mae Zuki the Front Thrust
Starting in a firm standing position, Sano, draws, thrusts at a frontal attacker and sheaths his blade; all in one fluid motion.- Ushiro Zuki the Rear Thrust
From a kneeling position, Sano, quickly turns about, draws to thrust the rear and then sheaths. As long as he is aware of an attacker behind him, a quick, unexpected offensive strike does wonders to turn the tide of a battle.- Kesagiri the Diagonal Cut
From the standard, standing position, Sano, draws, strikes an approaching attacker in a diagonal arc and then sheaths his blade.- Nibaigiri the Double Cut
Starting in a kneeling position, Sano, rises up, draws, making first an upward bound strike and then a dropping strike as he sheaths his blade.- Tsukesagiri the Cut and Thrust
From a firm standing position, Sano, draws, attempts to cut one foe, then thrusts into another before quickly sheathing thereafter.- Sandangamaegiri the Triple Cut
At the present moment, this is Sano's most deadly technique. From a kneeling position, he rises up (while drawing) and makes three fast strikes at an opponent. This movment is flashy, and at times hard to trace. However, more seasoned swordsmen (and shinobi) would still be able the read the lines of his blade.

HISTORY:[/size]
The birth of a son, among Samurai, is a joyous occasion; in this way, Sanosuke's birth came not as a curse, but a blessing to his parents. Before him, they bore two children, both girls: Azumi, and Chiyo. Respectively ten and two years older than him. His eldest sister was tasked in raising him, as his parents were often bound to their duties. This, did not adversely affect him, but did teach him of the equality and dual nature of humane principles. Whereas he was provided for, he was in turn expected to grow up strong, respectful and intelligent.
As per tradition, upon the coming of his fifth year, he began study at the Dojo. Taken to Kenjutsu among other arts, he, where some failed excelled. Whether it was his determination, or his love for honor and kendo, he consistently improved, to a degree that is often not seen until the later years in a Samurai's life. Matched with skill, he learned of things that ought not be known 'till much later in life.
From master to master, he was taught of the looming death of their ways. Those, the ninja that had separated from their bushido and formed the hidden leaf village, sought to change; sought change in a world that needed structure. This in turn, he was told, brought war, and war still grew in the ever present distance. Now, at the same time, he did not have the right to question the way of others. To each kin his and her own and from them let all consequences be theirs. In this way, the affairs of the Ninja were not the affairs of the Samurai and the Samurai way was only their way. Clan and kin first among all.
It was his sister, Chiyo, that first gave him the nickname Sani-neechan. He was in her words, adorable, yet deadly.A Samurai at heart, with the eyes of a killer and a soul of gentle inclinations. He later changed this to merely Sano, although his sisters still prefer Sani-neechan when he is at home.
Years passed with the turning and blooming of the cherry blossoms in the many fields of Furosato. Sano became content with his way of life, and rarely ever left the bounds of his village. He was eventually given his own duties as a Samurai and was charged to watch the borders of their land and interrogate those that wished passage. There he was judgement and there he was also law. Violence, although despised, was permitted.
On the 'eve of his fourteenth birthday, he received his second Katana, as proof of his advanced status, and a mark of his stature among the other Samurai. The first in his generation to be named Chukanbushi and join the ranks of the many protectors of Furosato. His parents attended that ceremony, and presented the blade to him, which he now wears at his side, along with his first Katana, one given to all amateur Samurais.
Rising political conditions among the great nations of Shinobi have sparked in turn tension in the ranks of the Samurai. Although not hostile, he finds it hard to relate to those so bent on their differences that they would start wars and kill thousands to ensure the success of their way. Samurai, his Samurai were peacekeepers; and as far as he was concerned he is now a peacekeeper. His blades are the answer, a resolution to a society dominate on the domination of the weak and the generally oppressed.
